Variable-hours and temporary workforce payroll

Weekly payrolls with moving headcount, processed to the same controls

A monthly salaried payroll changes little between periods. A weekly variable-hours payroll changes almost entirely — different people, different hours, different rates, every week. The processing controls have to be tighter, not looser.

What the service covers

Weekly, fortnightly and four-weekly cycles, including running more than one frequency alongside a monthly salaried payroll.

Timesheet-based processing

receiving timesheet data in the agreed format, checking it against the expected pattern, and flagging missing, duplicate or out-of-range entries before processing.

Multiple rates per worker

standard, overtime, night, weekend, bank holiday and site-specific rates applied against your rate card.

High starter and leaver volume

processing new starters, tax code handling and leaver documentation at the pace a temporary workforce actually moves.

Holiday pay processing

calculated and processed on the basis you specify, whether accrued, rolled up where lawful for the arrangement, or paid on taking leave.

Expenses and deductions

processing agreed expense payments and deductions through the payroll under your instruction and your policy.

Cost analysis

pay run reporting broken down by site, client, cost centre or assignment where your structure requires it.

Conditions of engagement

We accept this work only where:

  • you are the employer of the individuals on the payroll and operate your own PAYE scheme;
  • you have determined the employment status and tax treatment of every individual, including off-payroll working status where relevant, and confirm this in writing;
  • you fund all net pay and payroll liabilities from your own account; and
  • the arrangement is a straightforward employer payroll, not an intermediary or umbrella structure.

What we do not do

We do not supply, recruit or place workers. We do not employ anyone on a client's behalf. We do not act as an umbrella company, an employer of record, or a managed service company. We do not operate payrolls for intermediary structures where the true employer is unclear, and we decline any engagement where we cannot establish who the employer is.

We say this plainly because the temporary labour market contains arrangements designed to obscure exactly that, and we do not work in them.

How we charge for this service

A rate per payslip produced, which for weekly payrolls is invoiced monthly against a log showing every run in the period. Where headcount is stable enough to predict, a fixed monthly fee against an agreed volume band is available instead.

Our fee is never linked to the value of the payroll or to any deduction made from a worker's pay, and nothing is ever charged to a worker.
